 LED lamps are widely used in daily lighting, but for agricultural lighting, it needs to meet the dual conditions of economic benefit and friendly farming. Therefore, some special requirements must be met in the use of lighting, such as the choice of wavelength and color, the application requirements of no flicker…etc. Meanwhile, MEAN WELL has developed LED drivers with constant voltage output, adjustable dimming and no flicker for the special lamps for animal husbandry lighting, and provided them to customers around the world as standard power supplies.

Due to the different sizes of farms, current livestock lighting is mostly designed with constant voltage lamps, and then used according to the size of the site. Considering the uniformity of dimming, there is also a length limit. In addition, animals are highly sensitive to the temperature of the breeding environment and the flicker of lamps. The physiological characteristics of animals must be fully considered. In particular, the growth of poultry is greatly affected by the intensity, time and spectrum of light irradiation. Under suitable light, it can stimulate the appetite of poultry, increase food intake, and promote the growth of poultry. Therefore, a flicker-free LED dimming power supply must be used.

Traditional constant voltage output dimming drivers are mostly designed with PWM pulse output. Although PWM will not cause harm to humans, it may cause panic to light-sensitive poultry. To this end, MEAN WELL has developed a constant voltage output, flicker-free dimming LED driver, which can effectively reduce animals’ fear of changes in ambient light, and indirectly increase the growth of animals or the number of eggs laid by poultry. In addition to livestock lighting applications, the flicker-free design is also suitable for environments that require high lighting quality, such as studios, reading spaces, boutique exhibition stores, etc.

MEAN WELL currently provides livestock lighting power products with three wattages, which are convenient for customers to use according to the needs of the site. At present, most of the industry accepts 0-10V dimming drivers, combined with lighting control systems for dimming. In the future, it can also be combined with DALI digital lighting control methods to use DALI dimming and match MEAN WELL DLC-02, DAP-04 DALI digital The light control system is used in combination with light schedule control or scene setting to meet more flexible and digital intelligent agricultural lighting.
